Niv Gafny
Writer, Semifinalist - "Old Men Drink Coffee Alone"
Niv Sa’ad Gafny is a screenwriter born in Tel Aviv. His grandparents were Jewish refugees from Poland, Syria, Lebanon and Tajikistan, before moving to Israel. His family’s unique background has influenced his understanding of setting, space and identity. He was raised in Baltimore and then studied film at NYU, where he met his producing partners: actor Danny Ramirez and producer Tom Culliver. Since moving to LA in 2016, he has worked in many facets of the industry, most recently as a writer’s assistant to The Sopranos creator David Chase. He has also worked at UTA, eOne and for writer/director Jeremy Garelick. As a writer, he has adapted Eric Darnell’s awarding-winning short film Crow, starring John Legend and Oprah Winfrey, into a feature screenplay. He also wrote a feature based on the hit reality TV show Cops, for Boies/Schiller Film Group.
